IoT consulting and IoT security

Adopt connected devices without bolting on security later.

Planning an IoT project, want an existing system reviewed, or need your team trained? I help with technology choices, architecture and security, explained clearly and applied to your project.

Typical starting points

Companies and teams usually get in touch when one of these questions is open.

It's unclear where to start
You want to connect a product or a facility and don't know which radio technology, platform or architecture fits your requirements.
A prototype works, security is open
The system runs, but nobody has systematically checked where it can be attacked and which of those weaknesses actually matter.
Security is being asked about
Customers, partners or new rules such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act ask about the security of your connected products, and you need an honest assessment of where you stand.
Your team should be able to join the conversation
Developers, product managers or students should understand the fundamentals of connected systems and their security.

What I offer

IoT consulting
Getting started, choosing technology and designing the architecture of connected systems. We clarify what you need, what you can leave out and where the risks are.
Security review
A structured look at devices, communication and backend: where are the weaknesses, which ones matter, and what should happen first?
Workshops and talks
Half or full days for teams, universities or events: fundamentals, security of connected systems, from idea to prototype.
Prototypes and feasibility
When something should be built after the conversation: a working prototype that shows whether the idea holds before you invest more.

How a consulting project works

  1. 1

    First conversation

You describe your project or system. I ask questions until it's clear what it's about and what should come out of it.

  2. 2

    Clear quote

You get a quote up front with scope and deliverables, no surprises.

  3. 3

    Analysis or workshop

Depending on what you need, we look at architecture and technology together, review security or work with your team in a workshop.

  4. 4

    Results and next steps

You end up with a clear assessment and prioritised recommendations. Where it makes sense, a prototype follows.

Why me

In my main role I work at a research centre for IoT security. So I know connected systems not only from the perspective of those who build them, but also from the perspective of those who attack them.

Under dpssoft.io I consult as a sole proprietor. You get one person to talk to who understands the technology himself, says honestly what isn't needed, and explains things so that non-specialists can take part in the decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the IoT consulting for?

For companies, research institutions and universities that develop, deploy or want to secure connected devices. The size of the project doesn't matter, as long as it's clear what should come out of it.

Does a system need to exist already?

No. Consulting often helps most before the first technology decision is made. I review existing systems and prototypes just as well.

How do workshops work?

Workshops last half a day or a full day. We agree on content, location and format beforehand so they fit your team and its prior knowledge.

Which languages do you work in?

German or English.

What does consulting cost?

That depends on scope and effort. After the first conversation you get a clear quote before anything is billed.
